There seems to be a new emerging hotspot for so-called digital nomads. The area that was once primarily regarded as a retiree destination is now being rebranded among younger DTV holders and location-independent professionals. Positioned southwest of Bangkok and directly across the Gulf from Pattaya, Hua Hin has long been a favored beach escape for Thai nationals, including the Royal Family.

The shoreline is a stretch of soft white sand bordered by rocky outcrops and calm turquoise waters. It sits in front of a mountain range rich with wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. It’s a haven for those who prefer a hike to a hangover, with trails that wind through dense jungle and up to panoramic views.

Housing here is surprisingly accessible. You can find a one-bedroom beachfront condo, often with strong Wi-Fi and modern amenities, for around $350 to $450 a month. I’m talking about a nice apartment too, granite, large western kitchen and bathroom. Private pool villas, many of which include game rooms and even karaoke setups, often rent for $650 to $850. The region is well-equipped: high-speed internet is reliable, grocery and dining options are varied, and Bangkok remains within reach for weekend trips or administrative errands.

Hua Hin is more affordable than every one of Thailand’s current hotspots; whether it's Samui, Phuket, or the northern outposts like Chiang Mai. Scooter rentals are cheap. There are many Cafés and even beach clubs to choose from. There’s no shortage of inspiration here if you're working on a project or just want to find a relaxed and enjoyable life. While nightlife is more subdued than in Phuket or Pattaya, it also means fewer crowds, less noise.

I leave for my short trip to Singapore tomorrow. I’m packed and ready. I’ll be sure to take photos and share my experience with you.
